SETTING THE SCENE
The Flamingos will play in the second round of the US Open Cup on Wednesday, April 3rd against MLS Next Pro squad, Chicago Fire II. Forward Madison beat Duluth FC in the first round, 2-0, and Chicago Fire II beat Chicago City, 6-0. Kickoff for the match will take place just after 7pm CT.
HISTORY VS. CHICAGO FIRE II
Forward and Chicago Fire II faced each other once in the preseason this year. The ‘Mingos won, with goals contributed by defenders Ferrety Sousa and Jake Crull.
Although only a preseason match, it was still a competitive match-up and is sure to be just as exciting now that both teams have a few matches under their belts.
‘MINGOS LAST MATCH RECAP
On Friday, Forward Madison earned their first three points of the 2024 season, beating Central Valley Fuego FC 3-0. The ‘Mingos dominated possession in a stormy, late match in California.
Goalkeeper, Bernd Schipmann, recorded his second clean sheet of the season. Derek Gebhard and John Murphy Jr. scored their first goals of the season for the pink and blue, and Devin Boyce notched his second in three games.
KEYS TO THE MATCH PRESENTED BY THE BURISH GROUP AT UBS
The offense finally woke up for the ‘Mingos this past weekend, knocking three goals in off of 11 shots. Look for the squad to carry this attacking momentum into the game on Wednesday.
It’ll be another quick turnaround for Forward after a long travel weekend. Legs will be tired, but Head Coach Matt Glaeser will look to use his depth on the bench to give some guys a rest and some guys a few minutes. With Christian Chaney suffering an injury in the Fuego match, look for forward Agustín Dávila to push the attack.
NEXT MATCH
Next up, FMFC will play its regular season Home Opener on Saturday, April 13th at historic Breese Stevens Field. Kickoff will be at 6pm CT and tickets to the match can still be purchased here. The club will be celebrating its beloved mascot, Lionela Bessi, and her retirement at the match, as well.
