Madison Gas and Electric (MGE) Presents Día de Fútbol October 16 at Breese Stevens Field

The inaugural MGE Día de Fútbol is coming to Breese Stevens Field on October 16. MGE Día de Fútbol will feature an appearance by Mexican soccer star Gerardo Torrado who will be available for autographs pre-game and will feature a match between two all-star teams comprised of the best Latino players from around Dane County.

Four area youth teams also will participate in exhibition games prior to the all-star game. Admission to the event is free, thanks to the support of MGE. The event will feature food carts, live music, and family friendly entertainment throughout the day.

Kickoff for the all-star game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. with gates opening at 12:30 p.m.

The rain or shine event will feature two Madison all-star teams; United Football Club vs. the Madison Blues.

There is plenty of covered seating available at Breese Stevens Field in the event of inclement weather.

Gerardo Torrado has been a mainstay of the Mexican National Soccer Team with 146 appearances (3rd most selected player of all time) for the team since 1999. Torrado, a defensive midfielder, played for Sevilla in Spain from 2002-2004, Cruz Azul in the Mexican Football League from 2005-2016 and is now a member of the Indy Eleven in the North American Soccer League.

Timeline of events:

12:30 p.m. – Gates open. Live music, food carts, kids’ games and autographs from Gerardo Torrado will be available.

1:30 p.m. – Youth soccer matches featuring 4 youth teams, including Regent Soccer Club, Middleton United, Capital East Soccer Club and Oregon Soccer Club. Both games will be played simultaneously on a split field.

2:00 p.m. – Kickoff of game United Football Club vs Madison Blues Halftime – Torrado will address the crowd and participate in a penalty kick event. Fans can register to defend his penalty kicks by registering on the Breese Stevens Field Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/events/579970875508348/). 20 winners will participate and anyone that successfully stops him will win an autographed soccer ball. More details regarding food, live music and other entertainment will be announced as the event gets closer.
